Junior Specialist
Emerson graduated from Michigan State University with a B.Sc. in Fisheries and Wildlife. During her undergrad, she worked for Cape Eleuthera Institute, USGS, and at the Benbow Research Lab at MSU. During this time she was able to assist in research on pelagic & lemon sharks, nesting sea turtles, and insects.
After graduation, Emerson worked for the State of Alaska to gather biological data on Chinook and Sockeye Salmon on the Situk River. Following that, she worked at Catalina Island Marine Institute teaching marine science, and finally spent time as a Longline Fisheries Observer in the Pacific Island Region fishery before joining the Segarra Lab as a Junior Specialist.
Emerson is broadly interested in ensuring more sustainable and abundant fisheries for future generations. Specifically, she is interested in conservation physiology, life history of highly migratory, coastal pelagic, and anadromous fish populations, the effects of ocean warming and acidification on fisheries, and fish parasitology.
